Sick Call & Relief Committee

The Sick Call & Relief Committee is one of the most compassionate and mission-driven committees within the American Legion. Its primary purpose is to ensure that no member of our Post is ever forgotten during times of illness, hardship, or personal difficulty. Rooted in the Legion’s values of service and camaraderie, this committee embodies what it truly means to take care of our own.

What is the Sick Call & Relief Committee?

The Sick Call & Relief Committee is responsible for maintaining contact with members who are sick, injured, hospitalized, or otherwise in need of support. The committee works quietly but effectively behind the scenes to provide assistance, encouragement, and connection.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Visiting members who are hospitalized, in rehabilitation, or confined to their homes

  • Coordinating phone calls, cards, and wellness checks to maintain morale and connection

  • Providing assistance to members and their families during times of hardship

  • Supporting funeral services and offering comfort to families during times of loss

  • Working with Post leadership to identify members in need and ensure timely support

Why is the Sick Call & Relief Committee Important?

The importance of the Sick Call & Relief Committee lies in its direct impact on the well-being of our members and their families.

Strengthens Brotherhood & Camaraderie

This committee ensures that every Legionnaire knows they are part of a supportive network that stands by them in both good times and difficult moments.

Provides Critical Support in Times of Need

Whether through visits, outreach, or coordination of assistance, the committee helps ease the burden during illness or hardship.

Maintains Member Connection & Engagement

By staying in contact with members who may be unable to attend meetings or events, the committee helps keep them connected to the Post.

Honors Our Commitment to Veterans

Caring for fellow veterans is a core value of the American Legion. This committee ensures that commitment is upheld with dignity, respect, and compassion.
